FAQ'sWhere do the dogs come from? Most of our rescued dogs come from Texas animal shelters and were surrendered as unwanted, found as strays, or dogs that have been abandoned to fend for themselves. All animal shelters that we accept dogs from are high kill shelters. We like to think of Allie’s Haven as a lifeline for these dogs to experience a new and wonderful world where they’ll be loved and appreciated. All dogs are evaluated for health, temperament, and level of training before being accepted into our program. Dogs rescued from outside the DFW area are transported then taken to our local veterinarian for their initial health evaluation. After that, they’re off to a foster home to be loved on until fully vetted and ready to find their adoptive homes. Why should I adopt instead of buying from a breeder?Adopting a pet reduces the number of animals that are needlessly euthanized. The high majority of animals in shelters are there by no fault of their own and long to be loved and adored the way they should have been from the beginning. When you adopt, you save a life. Adoption gives these sweet pets the opportunity to be part of a family that loves them AND it opens up shelter space that is desperately needed by another dog or cat. If I'm fostering a dog or cat, can I adopt it myself? We do understand that when a connection is made between a dog or cat and the human it’s a wonderful bond. We require an adoption fee and signed adoption contract as with any other adopter. We hate to lose foster homes due to the adoption and ask if you do adopt would you be willing to help another dog in need? Learn more...
